Our safety and risk management practices for students and staff

At Black Diamond Adventures the health and safety of our students and staff is our number one priority.

All Black Diamond Adventure trips are carefully planned and have a Risk Management Plan in place which is tailored to each group.

RISK MANAGEMENT AND EMERGENCY RESPONSE PLAN

Every Adventure has a thoroughly developed and specifically designed risk management and emergency response plan that meets the specific needs of the school and students who will be participating on the trip and reflects current COVID-19 guidelines. Black Diamond Adventures is a registered COVID Safe Business.

CONTACTS AND NATIONAL PARKS

We carefully consider advise and forecasts made by National Parks and the Bureau of Meteorology. We also work closely with the local authorities and professional organisations that have extensive experience and knowledge of the areas we operate in.

PRE-TRIP PREPARATION AND TRAINING

All booked Duke of Edinburgh expeditions come with pre-trip training. This is an essential part of the trip that all students are required to complete. The training includes, route planning, food choices, clothing options, suggested equipment, safety procedures, basic first aid, strategic packing, equipment organisation and navigation. There will be an opportunity to hire or purchase equipment.

COMMUNICATIONS

A range of communication methods and technology are utilised and carried. Including Garmin Inreach tracking and satellite communication, 2-way radio, mobile phone & Emergency Positioning, Indicating, Radio Beacon (EPIRB).

COLLABORATION WITH SCHOOL AND CLIENTS

It is very important that medical forms are completed and returned to Black Diamond Adventures at a minimum of 2 weeks prior to the commencement of the camp. As a part of our procedure, we like to look over the details of every student before contacting the organising school staff member. It is critical to discuss students that may have sensitive or pre-existing health circumstances, to ensure that we manage these to the best of our ability and update our risk management plan accordingly. Often we will also be in contact with the parent or carer of such students where possible.

A comprehensive and tailored risk assessment/management plan will be supplied to each school who is planning to participate on one of our expeditions.
